Hello from Connie Goldin
SundaySchoolUpdates.com is an enrichment website for Catholic families preparing children for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. It is written for parents to teach to their own children. All are welcome!
Hello and welcome to Sunday School Updates! I am Connie Goldin—“Mom” to grown sons, wife to David, grandma to a beautiful granddaughter, convert to Catholicism in 2014, and parent educator for the past nine years. I recently dissolved my nonprofit organization, Mom to Madre, which is no longer operating. After nine years of community education, outreach, and book donations, I am excited to have moved to Florida, and becoming active in my new church. That leaves with with many other things that keep me happily occupied—my family and dogs, writing and creating art projects for SundaySchoolUpdates.com, and learning more about my chosen religion, Catholicism. My husband and I are loving seeing the wildlife of South Florida, which is all around us.
I had the beautiful experience for two years of teaching CCD, or “Sunday School.” The first year, I taught kindergarten and first grade. The second year, I got to teach my former students as first and second graders, taking my second graders (and two third graders) though their preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. It was wonderful!
I am happy to continue reaching out and teaching via my website, SundaySchoolUpdates.com. Families who homeschool, want Catechism enrichment for their children, or are interested in the Catechism of the Catholic church for themselves, can all find something interesting and hopefully new. I am using materials from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the writings of Pope Francis for Children, and many other excellent sources.
I have two awesome people who have been my wonderful teachers: My deceased father-in-law, Professor Judah Goldin, who was a renowned expert on Judaism and the Torah, and helped me learn about the Old Testament; and my son, Father William Goldin, who was ordained a priest in 2014 and received his Doctorate degree in June 2017 in Rome, who helps me with my Catholic questions. Both have both helped me so much on my religious journey. It’s so nice to have a priest whom I can call, whenever the whim hits me, for any theological question, since I am his mom!
Please let me know what you think, or if you have any questions on the material I am posting. Let’s learn together!
Thanks, Connie Goldin

A Message from Connie School from Last School Year, 2016-2017
Hello. I am happy to be teaching second graders in preparation for their First Holy Communion. I also have two third graders who will be making their First Holy Communion, and seven first graders, who will be very prepared when their time comes to make a First Holy Communion! Since this is my first year as a Catechist for this age group, I am excited to be finding new materials constantly and am planning our activities as we go. I taught kindergarten/first grade Sunday School last school year, so I know most of the students. My goal is to educate the children and give them a sense of the beauty, wonder, and awe present in the Mass. It will be a joyous experience, filled with learning about our Catholic faith.
The students’ art is being featured in the galleries, and on the “thumb nails” at the top of the pages. The other art, especially at the beginning of our CCD year, is by me. When the art is bright, fresh and free, it’s by a student!

Here is what I am learning thus far:
Kids of various ages and grade levels do great together.
All the children are eager to know and love God.
We all can sing and paint!
I always prepare more than I need.
Parents in the classroom are wonderful!
Thanks for sharing your children with me each Sunday.
I hope you enjoy looking at Sunday School Updates!
Please follow my experiences as a new Catechist as we go through the CCD school year, 2016-2017.
I hope you will find beautiful enrichment ideas and resources here. Please send me yours, as well.
There are wonderful books, Bible stories, and craft projects that we can do with children. I hope you’ll enjoy the ideas and links in this section.
