 “The Enraged King”

Gospel   USCCB

“The Parable of the Wedding Feast”

“Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and elders of the people
in parables, saying,
‘The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king
who gave a wedding feast for his son.
He dispatched his servants
to summon the invited guests to the feast,
but they refused to come.
A second time he sent other servants, saying,
‘Tell those invited: “Behold, I have prepared my banquet,
my calves and fattened cattle are killed,
and everything is ready; come to the feast.”‘
Some ignored the invitation and went away,
one to his farm, another to his business.
The rest laid hold of his servants,
mistreated them, and killed them.
The king was enraged and sent his troops,
destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Then he said to his servants, ‘The feast is ready,
but those who were invited were not worthy to come.
Go out, therefore, into the main roads
and invite to the feast whomever you find.’
The servants went out into the streets
and gathered all they found, bad and good alike,
and the hall was filled with guests.
But when the king came in to meet the guests,
he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
The king said to him, ‘My friend, how is it
that you came in here without a wedding garment?’
But he was reduced to silence.
Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Bind his hands and feet,
and cast him into the darkness outside,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’
Many are invited, but few are chosen.”

“The Guests Invited to The Feast” Matthew 22:1-14

“The Kingdom of God”, said Jesus,

‘is like a king who prepared a great wedding feast.

But ,when everything was ready, all those

he had invited found an excuse not to come.”

The king then told his servants to go out

into the street and invite everyone they saw.

Jesus said, “God invites all men

to the banquet in his kingdom.

Blessed are you who prepared

to accept his invitation.”

“The Lord is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want”

Psalm 23 USCCB

The LORD is my shepherd;

there is nothing I lack.

In green pastures he makes me lie down;

to still waters he leads me;

he restores my soul.

He guides me along right paths

for the sake of his name.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff comfort me.

II

You set a table before me

in front of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Indeed, goodness and mercy will pursue me

all the days of my life;

I will dwell in the house of the LORDfor endless days.

there is nothing I lack.

In green pastures he makes me lie down;

to still waters he leads me;

he restores my soul.

He guides me along right paths

for the sake of his name.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff comfort me.

You set a table before me

in front of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Indeed, goodness and mercy will pursue me

all the days of my life;

I will dwell in the house of the LORD

for endless days.

“I am the good shepherd, says the Lord”– “Jesus said: ‘My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.’” Source: USCCB, John, Chapter 10:27-30 This is a simple painting on watercolor paper using colored watercolor pencils, a black fine point Sharpie, washed with watercolor paint.

The Lamb of God

Our Family Art Project

“The Lamb of God”

Here is how I drew “The Lamb of God”:

I used square watercolor paper, 12″ by 12.”

You can use any type of material to paint on, such as cardboard, paper bag material, a piece of wood for art, etc.

I used a plate upside down, traced around it to make the circle for the drawing/painting.

I looked at a “Lamb of God” painting for children, and copied it by hand.

Then, I used a pencil to lightly outline the “Lamb” and the Cross.

I then used a black, Sharpie over the pencil marks.

I decided to cut out the “Lamb” and glue it to the watercolor paper. (I ofter do this to cover a mistake!

Finally, I used Kwik Stix (dry tempera paint) for the color around the “Lamb.”

You and your children can use whatever you have at hand, such as crayons, colored pencils, Sharpies, and tempera paint.

Have a nice time with your children!

“The Lamb of God”— “When God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, the blood of a lamb painted over their doors saved their lives. People sacrificed lambs in temple worship to show their repentance. Jesus is the Lamb of God because he offered his life as a sacrifice for our sins.” Source: Loyola Kids BOOK of Catholic Signs & Symbols An Illustrated Guide To Their History And Meaning, Page 8, By Amy Welborn This is an easy craft for young children. You’ll need strong paper or cardboard, solid tempera sticks, crayons, or markers, and glue. Cut out a picture of the Lamb of God or a lamb, and cut around the image. Then glue it onto the paper. Decorate as desired. Fun, fast, and easy! I used Kwik Stix tempera sticks, which dry smooth in 90 seconds.
