“The Rich Man” Mark, Chapter 10:17-31

“As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up,
knelt down before him, and asked him,
‘Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’
Jesus answered him, ‘Why do you call me good?
No one is good but God alone.
You know the commandments: You shall not kill;
you shall not commit adultery;
you shall not steal;
you shall not bear false witness;
you shall not defraud;
honor your father and your mother.’

He replied and said to him,
‘Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth.
Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him,
‘You are lacking in one thing.
Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor
and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’
At that statement his face fell,
and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,
‘How hard it is for those who have wealth
to enter the kingdom of God!’
The disciples were amazed at his words.
So Jesus again said to them in reply,
‘Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle
than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’
They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves,
‘Then who can be saved?
Jesus looked at them and said,
‘For human beings it is impossible, but not for God.
All things are possible for God.’

The Beatitudes

“The Beatitudes are the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-10). Jesus teaches us that if we live according to the Beatitudes, we will live a happy Christian life. The Beatitudes fulfill God’s promises made to Abraham and his descendants and describe the rewards that will be ours as loyal followers of Christ.”

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the clean in heart,
for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.”

An Introduction To The Beatitudes For Young Children

Our Art Project–Try making a collage!

Use two pieces of art paper or watercolor paper. Paint one sheet with watercolor or other type of poster or acrylic kids’ paint.

Paint the second sheet as desired. When dry, cut out shapes, designs, or symbols, such as a heart or cross, then glue to the first sheet of paper, which is the”background.”

When the paint is dry and the glue is setting, place a cutting board or other flat, heavy object on top, to make the collage dry without curling up.

Here are several simple collages for inspiration:
