“When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,
they gathered together, and one of them,
a scholar of the law tested him by asking,
‘Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?’
He said to him,
‘You shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart,
with all your soul,
and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and the first commandment.
The second is like it:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.'”

“The Greatest Commandment” (Matthew 22:36-40)
“Moses was born more than one thousand years before Jesus was born.
After he came down from the mountain
the people tried to walk with God and live holy lives by obeying
his commandments.
Some days they did a great job, and other days they gave into temptation and sin.
As the years passed, more and more turned their
backs on God and his law. They stopped trying to live Holy Lives,
became confused about the best way to live, and made excuses
for their behavior.
But God still loved his people.
So when the time was right, he sent his only son, Jesus,
to save people from their sin and confusion and show them the best way to live.
One Day Jesus was in the synagogue listening and teaching, when someone asked him a question: “Teacher,”
which is the greatest of the commandments?” Jesus replied, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Our Family Art Project– The “Double Love” Commandment–The Greatest Commandment of All
I used two sheets of watercolor paper, then painted the big sheets with tempera paint and a brush. I made the blue sheet the base sheet. The second sheet was painted orange. One, however, was splattered with white tempera paint. I cut two hearts to glue to the blue base, then glued them down using Mod Podge paint. The second painting was part of the “Love” theme. I followed the painting of the gazelle and colored the animal with the beautiful, but not accurate, tempera paint.

Baptism of Jesus
“John and Jesus, cousins were they.
John baptized Jesus one fine day.
John dunked Jesus in the river water.
Baptizing him, now we know the Father.
The Spirit came down from Heaven above
Taking the form of fire or a dove.”
